Snoogle Snuggle

So if you haven’t heard me complain yet about only being able to sleep on ONE side (and I’m a stomach sleeper that twists & turns all night), then you might not understand how much I needed a snoogle. In fact, I’ve had it longer than I “needed” it, trying to train my body to be ok on just one side (which it still hates).

But I had no idea how handy this little gem would be for the rest of the family!

Apparently this super pillow is best for daddy naps, since this is how I found my husband last weekend in the middle of the afternoon. At least one of us has no problem sleeping on our left side ;)

Anyway, as with pretty much every other part of pregnancy, you can find info online to support both sides of any issue (in fact, mentioning something to a friend can get you get a third side…) According to most sites, sleeping on the left side is best. While sleeping on your right side is sort of OK, some say that limits blood flow to the placenta, which seems icky. And sleeping on your back “can cause problems with backaches, breathing, digestive system, hemorrhoids, low blood pressure and decrease in circulation to your heart and your baby”, which, um, seems much worse.

So of course I dutifully fall asleep on my left side. And I regularly wake in the middle of the night on my back (which NEVER happened until I was pregnant). Fate, I guess. Anyway, 5 months down, 5 to go, and then I won’t get to sleep at all ;)

Careful what you wish for…

  1. I always thought if I was a pregnant person, I would like to sleep in a big ol’ Lazy Boy… Am I nuts? Pass the ice cream with dirt in it.

    1. Lazy Boy… hmmm. I’ll tell you (and Bart will attest to this) that I’m not picky at all about WHERE I fall asleep – often it’s sitting up on the sofa. So compared to that, Lazy Boy sounds like a cloud. ;)

  2. Tell me you are reading “Girlfriends guide to pregnancy”. If not, you need to. I laughed until I cried reading that book because I could identify with so many issues. And I particularly remember the bit about sleeping – how it was like wrestling an alligator to turn over because of all the damn pillows you need to be comfortable and how hard it is to turn your big self around later on :) I’m giggling just thinking about it.

Wishing you comfort, and some good laughs :)

    1. Thanks, Alicia! I have that book but haven’t picked it up yet – a laugh would be great ;) I’m assuming bloating CAN be funny, right? Hope you had a great birthday!

  3. That’s nothing compared to poor Ezekiel, who had had to sleep on his left side for an entire year, all while balancing a scale replica of Jerusalem on his right side (such replica made from bricks and iron plates).

    Ezekial 4:4-8
“As for you, lie down on your left side and lay the iniquity of the house of Israel on it; you shall bear their iniquity for the number of days that you lie on it. For I have assigned you a number of days corresponding to the years of their iniquity, three hundred and ninety days…. Now behold, I will put ropes on you so that you cannot turn from one side to the other until you have completed the days of your siege.”

And if you think that’s not bad enough, check out how his macrobiotic dieat had to be prepared (Ezekial 4:9-15).

    1. um, the real question here is did you KNOW that or did you FIND that. and if you know that, I’m not sure I want to know how ;) regardless, it certainly does put my plight into perspective, no? for Ezekial, I didn’t even complain when I went to bed last night – we’ll see how long that lasts!
