So if you haven’t heard me complain yet about only being able to sleep on ONE side (and I’m a stomach sleeper that twists & turns all night), then you might not understand how much I needed a snoogle. In fact, I’ve had it longer than I “needed” it, trying to train my body to be ok on just one side (which it still hates).
But I had no idea how handy this little gem would be for the rest of the family!
Apparently this super pillow is best for daddy naps, since this is how I found my husband last weekend in the middle of the afternoon. At least one of us has no problem sleeping on our left side ;)
Anyway, as with pretty much every other part of pregnancy, you can find info online to support both sides of any issue (in fact, mentioning something to a friend can get you get a third side…) According to most sites, sleeping on the left side is best. While sleeping on your right side is sort of OK, some say that limits blood flow to the placenta, which seems icky. And sleeping on your back “can cause problems with backaches, breathing, digestive system, hemorrhoids, low blood pressure and decrease in circulation to your heart and your baby”, which, um, seems much worse.
So of course I dutifully fall asleep on my left side. And I regularly wake in the middle of the night on my back (which NEVER happened until I was pregnant). Fate, I guess. Anyway, 5 months down, 5 to go, and then I won’t get to sleep at all ;)
Careful what you wish for…
