To the MOON, Zoe! (yep, that’s Buzz Aldrin)

On Monday night, Zoe and I attended the Webby Awards in NY, a celebrity-filled event that honors the best of the best on the Internet. Winners and announcers included such celebrities as Jimmy Fallon, Isabella Rossellini, Lisa Kudrow, Jason Bateman, and Will Arnett. The emcee was BJ Novak from The Office, and I have to say, he was pretty funny.

In addition, there were icons such as Roger Ebert, Sir Tim Berners-Lee (inventor of the World Wide Web) and Vinton Cerf, the actual inventor of the Internet (shocked to hear it wasn’t Al Gore). And such “Internet Icons” as Biz Stone, the cofounder of Twitter, and the Russian kid (17 years old) who founded a site called Chat Roulette, which pairs you with random strangers around the world via video chat – oh, and Ben Folds performed a “chat roulette” live as they panned the camera around the room – very exciting :)

But the celebrity that stole the show was Buzz Aldrin, who accepted a Webby Award on behalf of NASA, and was lucky enough to be photographed with Zoe! If you’re interested, there are lots of videos of the event up on the Webby Awards channel on YouTube and some really cool “5-word acceptance speeches” by the winners. Try it. When you only have 5 words to work with, you get some very interesting results.

In fact, Arianna Huffington is on the board of the Webbys AND won an award this year for the Huffington Post.  To prepare for her acceptance, she posted a request for help on her blog, which generated almost 3,000 suggestions – oh, the power of the Internet. Here’s my very own video of her acceptance speech (I was dying to know which she picked!)

Funny enough, I’m not very star-struck (I mean, come on, I live in LA), but it was a pretty cool experience for Zoe to be surrounded by famous people ;) Zoe’s favorite was when the PS 22 Chorus sang – they’re a NY elementary school group that became a YouTube sensation, and as of May 17, 2010 their videos have been watched more than 18,000,000 times.

As Zoe says, “Kidz Rock”.
